Student Work
Introducing computation into introductory physics labs
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis project surveyed past and present WPI students about their experiences with the introductory physics labs and used that data, along with current best practices for lab design and computer programming education, to develop materials for teaching Python in said labs and create a new first lab for PH111X (Mechanics). Results indicated that students responded positively to streamlined lab guides, detailed programming tutorials, and more interactive group lab activities. It is recommended that the WPI Physics Department follow a similar blueprint in redesigning its other introductory labs to improve learning outcomes.
- This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
