When tackling the problem of waste entering our ecosystem, the ocean is one of the most affected environments. While there are devices that specialize in cleaning up either the shore or the open water, there is a gap in the market for something that can clean up the rougher coastlines. These areas cannot be sifted through easily since they are comprised of large rock formations and jetties. To tackle this unique issue, we sought out to design a three-tiered system to both dislodge debris as well as capture and compress them. Utilizing last year's project base, we optimized the belt to fit our waste compaction mechanism and added a high-pressure hose. With future development from other MQP groups, we believe this can help tackle the ongoing issue of immense ocean debris.
