Design of a device to apply cyclic equibiaxial and strip biaxial stretch to model wound-healing tissue

Public

A system to apply cyclic equibiaxial and strip biaxial stretch to model wound-healing tissue was designed. Tissue was cultured on flexible bottom membranes, placed over loading post platens, and stretched by vacuum pressurization. Strain distributions produced by the circular platen design on the flexible membrane showed uniform equibiaxial strain [Eyy/Exx = 1±0.1] within a 10mm analyzed specimen. Strip biaxial platen design 5b strain distributions showed that within a 10mm diameter specimen, strip biaxial strains were uniform and at-88.98 kPa Eyy/Exx = -0.102.
