Assessment of Failures in Long-Term Management of Contaminated Sites

open in viewerThe goal of this project was to identify reasons for failures in long-term stewardship at remediated sites in the Superfund Program and to evaluate whether reviews conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Superfund program are effective at identifying and correcting problems. To achieve the project goal Five-Year Reviews of 110 sites listed on the Superfund National Priority List were analyzed. Results of this study contribute to ongoing research to improve long-term stewardship programs.
