Microstructure-Property Correlations in Friction Stir Welded Al6061-T6 Alloys
PublicContenu téléchargeable
open in viewerFriction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state process that can be used for transportation and defense applications. Understanding the microstructure evolution and properties of friction stir welded components is necessary to use FSW in critical structural applications. Tensile properties and fatigue crack growth behavior of friction stir welded wrought Al6061-T6 were investigated in the direction parallel to the FSW direction. A fatigue crack growth test was performed on a compact tension specimen in ambient conditions for constant Delta K. The effects of FSW parameters were also studied. Microstructural changes, microhardness, and residual stresses were characterized and correlated with the tensile properties and fatigue crack growth behavior of the Al6061-T6 material.
