Evaluating the Effects of Suicide Risk Screening on Emergency Department Workflow

Public Deposited

Suicide risk screening in emergency departments (EDs) can identify at risk patients and support the delivery of responsive care. Creating decision rules that effectively characterize risk and understanding how they impact overall ED workflow is critical. In a collaborative effort, the project team engaged with two local hospitals to develop a simulation model of ED workflow. This innovative approach can be used to investigate the effects of patient flow dynamics on wait times, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and responsiveness of emergency care systems.
